Make a little more of the day: towards Forge Dam
If the first part of the park leaves you wanting more, the Porter Valley offers a natural direction to continue. Make Forge Dam an option, with plenty of permission to turn back earlier.
Think in stages
The connected green spaces lead from Endcliffe through Bingham and Whiteley Woods towards Forge Dam. Make this an outing with several possible endpoints rather than a distance you must complete. Shepherd Wheel might be enough; another day you may want to keep going. There are road crossings along the way, so carry a route map and pay attention where the park paths meet streets. An out-and-back plan also means allowing time and energy for the return before you choose to continue.
Notice the change underfoot
Upper Whiteley Woods has rougher paths, and the approach to Wire Mill Dam includes steps or a steep path, according to FoPV. Choose the route that suits your group and the conditions instead of assuming every waterside path will feel the same. Shoes with a useful grip and a layer for a change in weather are sensible companions. If someone needs a more predictable surface, investigate that requirement before setting out rather than discovering a difficult section halfway through.
